Feeling Guilty
I have, for many months now, been feeling very bad about a show I did on Ramdan Radio. It was about "Islamic" knowledge versus "regular" knowledge - and during my incoherent ramblings I happened to mention a particular sister from my uni who gave up medicine in her 5th year. Now, I didn't mention any names but I described the circs around her giving it all up, i.e. how many weeks she was away from graduating etc. I wanted to illustrate a point, but it came out all wrong and ugly. It sounded like I was accusing her of wasting an opportunity and I spoke about how Muslim women should be fghting to get into such fields blah blah.
Anyway, a close friend of this sister's sister heard the show, and recognised who I was talking about. I think she's told the sister (who I respect immensely, infact she was one of the few who eased my transition into uni and I always looked up to her for advice). I think this sister hates me now (if someone as sweet as her is capable of hating) - so yes, I feel very bad.
Related to this, what do people think about giving up studies like medicine for Islamic reasons? To pursue Islamic studies for instance?
In Other News:

- I've been suspended from uni and unceremoniously kicked out. sob sob. It's not that bad really - didn't wan't to be a doc anyway. All that bood - urgh!
- I'm half joking - my fees aint been paid yet so they Deny me Access to my user area and account and email. huh! *tosses head*
Convo between 5 year old Usamah, my neph and Salman my bro (he of concrete underpants fame) :

Salman "yes, but it wont be haram or dirty. everythings allowed in jannah"
Usamah (triumphantly punching the air with his fist) "Yess!! excellent! Im going to EAT it. Im going to EAT PIG. its going to be DELICIOUS. Yess!
I worry.

salam.
sorry to hear about the sis. if she's as nice as that, surely you could apologise and explain as u'v done here.
as for the Q, what do you mean 'Islamic reasons?' You mean, eg, free mixing in not particularly suitable environments? or perhaps the problem of GPs having to routinely examine members of the opposite sex, etc? Or as i've just reread your post, i now know you're talking about leaving Med for islamic studies?
since i wrote the first two Qs,i might as well write s.th abt them. i think the scholars generally say that the situation is unfortunate yet unavoidable at present, until England becomes a Muslim country :) where the people learn the right adab of gender interaction, and you have the option of choosing to treat patients of your own sex when alternative doctors are available, tho' i'm not entirely sure that's not allowed now.... Is it?
on the last, i think it depends on the student's circumstances. if someone's well into their course, like the sis you mentioned [may God reward her for her noble intentions], then i would think it better not to leave. and anyway, we have a serious shortage of female Muslim docs, tho' that can be extended to almost any field, but docs are praps more important than most other things. and i don't just mean GPs, but also things like obs'n'gynae, etc.
if that's not the case, if someone can leave with minimal damage to their situation/family, etc, then they should consider their options seriously. People like Maulana Tariq Jamil--one of the most popular da'is in pakistan today [he's completely turned around the lives of huge numbers]--was meant to be a doctor, but pulled out in the middle of his course, as a result of which his family threw him out. Family came round later, but this guys really impacting people in pakland, and even in England, masha Allah. Again, its possible that things don't turn out quite so positive.
depends really...
